The Parkinson’s and Suicide Awareness Bug is a 1966 VW beetle we are building to bring awareness. The car its-self will be taken to many events to help attract people of all ages to learn more. The car when complete will have many names of people who have or had Parkinson’s or were loss to suicide painted within the graphics. We feel these names are more important than just a number or statistic.

This build was started in memory of Phil Berg and has grown from there.

Keep scrolling to learn who Philip B. Berg was. Remember it is ok to ASK4HLP

WHO WAS PHILIP B. BERG?

Phil spent his life serving others. He started this at a young age, when he was a kid he spent many years in the Boy Scouts, where he learned how to show leadership and help others. During this time he was in the Order of the Arrow, which is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of American. This Society is composed of Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in there every day lives. To become apart of this society, you must be elected by your peers. While in Scouts he also obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank and achievement you can earn. Only 4 percent of scouts have earned this rank after a long process. After he turned 18 he became a leader, which eventually let him to run or start a few scouts groups in the US and even abroad.

At the age of 18 Phil also enlisted in the United Sates Air Force, where he served his country for 20 years. During this time he served during Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars. In June of ’94 he retired as the rank of Tech Sergant. After the Air Force Phil spent another 25 plus years as a Paramedic on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. While there he served in many compactities. He eventually retired form being a paramedic as his Parkinson’s Disease progressed. At the age of 42 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He spent 20 years dealing with Parkinson’s before he passed away at the age of 62. If you can not tell, Phil spent his life serving others, and we want to continue his legacy.
